Why do college students  face so many mental health issues such as depression and anxiety in this day of age?

From the American  College Health Association they surveyed undergraduate students and it was reported 26% of students reported feeling so depressed that it was difficult to function, the other 43% of students reported feeling overwhelmed with anxiety. (American College Health Association, 2019).

The pressure of handling so many things at once can break students down. Students become consumed to not fail but in the process they are consumed with anxiety which leads to depression which then leads to the worst self-harm or suicide. As college students ourselves we have created this website to combat negative habits amongst students and combat them with positive ones.

Mental Health

Mind over Matter

From World Mental Health International College Student, they obtained from 13,984 first‐year students in eight countries across the world web-based self surveys about seeking help with mental health issues the results were, 24.6% of students reported that they would definitely seek treatment if they had a future emotional problem. The most commonly reported reasons not to seek treatment among students who failed to report that they would definitely seek help were the preference to handle the problem alone. (Ebert et al., 2019, pp. e1782-n/a)

The problem is that students aren't seeking help and it's detrimental to receive help because our minds need to be taken care of. When maintaining healthy mind habits from the other pages like nutrition and physical activity is a form of seeking help. As community of college students we understand the struggle we need to unite together to promote mental health in many different ways to  create the healthiest and happiest lifestyle for ourselves.
